When you really get down to knowing how to utilize this game at it's greatest potential, it's really something else. Ex. EV and IV training, wi-fi battles, and really intimate and competitive gameplay of this game makes Platinum better for several reasons. Graphics: - There's actually a slight color improvement compared to diamond and pearl. - The distortion world is very nice and artistic although I wouldn't recommend buying the game because of 10 minutes. - Unlike Diamond & Pearl, when the pokemon are battling, their backs are more animated. (The pokemon swerves to make the game look lively) - Unlike Diamond & Pearl, trainers are now animated when they send out their pokemon. - Unlike Diamond & Pearl, some maps are entirely refurbished to look nicer. (new sprites) Gameplay: - I'm not sure if it's available in Platinum, but in this game the exact same legendary pokemon you encounter the first time will respond if you accidently knock it out in the battle. - Unlike Diamond and Pearl, you can catch both Palkia and Dialga together after you beat the elite four. - Unlike Diamond & Pearl, Accuracy of Hypnosis was changed back to 60% - Unlike Diamond & Pearl, at the Fuego Ironworks, you an trade a single star piece for each type of shards. This makes a huge deal because shards of different color lets move tutors teach your pokemon really nice attacks for competitive gameplay. Wi-Fi: - Really flexible and easy to connect online. - GTS has nice new layout but unlike Diamond & Pearl, there is a bug that unable you to see levels of other pokemon that people want when you trade. It just makes it slightly annoying at times. Mystery Gift: - Platinum was able to download in seconds on wi-fi several really nice downloads that were exclusive to the game, such as the key items to encounter Darkrai and Shaymin. - Darkrai was able to get caught in the actual game so you could select the IV and nature of the pokemon :) Same goes for shaymin. The New Pokemon Form: - The new pokemon form are really nice as they give you entirely new builds for your pokemon. Shaymin's new form example makes it into a true legendary pokemon; the old form was really inferior. - The problem with the new form is that you can't trade it away to diamond and pearl and Pokemon Battle Revolution doesn't acknowledge the new form. Survival Area - A new map that now enables you to battle several gym leaders that you beat once a day and they improve. - You also get to decorate your own villa home with all the luxurious achievements. The only problem is the items are put in fixed spots when you decorate but they still look really really nice. Move Tutor: - New pokemon tutors are added to the game with REALLY nice new attacks that will entirely determine a winning match. For example, you can now teach Mew how to use synthesis which is a HUGE deal. My Only Complaint? - It's more of a complaint towards Pokemon Battle Revolution as I can't battle with my new pokemon forms on the wii. Conclusion: If you're a competitive pokemon player that does EV and IV training, this game is what you're looking for. Platinum was practically designed for competitive gameplay. Just remember that wi-fi connection is what makes this game beautiful. But if you already have Diamond and Pearl and you're a casual player with little knowledge of EV and IV training, this game isn't recommended.Ms. See Said: hours of fun! ( Nov. 17th 2009 )The last time I remember playing Pokemon was on my original gameboy, when it first came out-the blue version. I bought this game for my DS because I enjoyed it as a kid. I was happy to see that there are still original pokemon (and many new) and the game play is still the same. This game is awesome and once I start it is soo hard to put down...one more battle! Husband-leave me alone..dogs-leave me alone...Im playing pokemon! No but really it is a lot of fun and encouraged to anyone from kids to adults :)Robert J. The company going to milk this series out for the max and this game is no different then the others Pokomon DS games. It the same and it different. It hard to say which one is better then the other. This falls in line with enjoyment and broken fingers playing the DS. Ask the kids they tell you. My daugther plays them. One thing is to get the guide book for them. that help them. All the codes. I wonder if they could do their homework as they play this game. They be in Havard someday. It a simple minded game that the kid could easy get into and play and but hard to master. I am not going get into Pokomon and what it is, if you don't know what it is. Then turn on the Cartoon Channel and see for yourself. That it only on hardheld, figuring it out and how it plays. Pearl and Diamond were great Pokemon games for the DS, and now, to complete the pyramid, comes Platinum. This game compliments the first two as others in the series has done (such as Yellow for Red & Blue). For some, this game could be considered a minor makeover of Diamond and Pearl, but Platinum has additional features that make it worth purchasing in it's own right. Pokemon are available in this version that you would need to trade for in the first two of the series, making it worth getting for that fact alone. Not everyone has friends they can trade with, so this extra will provide Pokemon for them they couldn't get otherwise. Graphically, there's some additional tweaks that improve areas, and the sound quality is as good as ever. the day/night cycle helps you to catch Pokemon that only appear at certain times. Since I haven't fully explored this game yet, I can only give opinions on where I've gotten to at this point, but I have no regrets in purchasing this game. For the casual gamer, there might not be enough incentive to spend another $35, but for Pokemaniacs, this will be a worthwhile investment until Soulsilver and Heartgold arrive next Spring. Here's a summary breakdown: Pros: Another great Pokemon game for the DS with additional Pokemon and features Excellent graphics and sound Some new areas to explore Cons: Same old formula might put some people off from buying this title Those casual gamers who already have Pearl/Diamond won't want to invest again Not enough additional features to warrent purchasing to some Really only enough content and diversity for Pokemaniacs to buy Summary In all, if you love Pokemon, you should add this to your Pokemon titles for your DS. Enough diversity and gameplay will keep you coming back for more, and this will tide you over until the new Pokemon games for the DS arrive in 2010.
